Research Abstract |
From the early studies, it seems likely that indole acetic acid (IAA) metabolism is impaired under zinc deficiency. Our group (1992) showed that the normal level of free IAA may become ineffective or can not promote plant growth in the absence of zinc. Apart from occuring as a free acid, IAA also exists in conjugated forms. IAA conjugate have been described in which the IAA moiety is linked through a peptide bond to amino acids or peptides (amino conjugates) or through an ester bond to various carbohydrates (ester conjugates). In this studies the ester conjugated IAA in zincdeficient radish shoots was determined. Zinc deficient tissues were obtained from radish seedlings, grown in a culture solution of 0 ppm Zn [0,05 ppm Zn as control). Ester conjugated IAA was hydrolysed to free IAA by hydrolysis for 1h at room temperature in 1M NaOH and analyzed by GC-MS.The amount of ester conjugated IAA in the zinc deficient seedlings was found to be almost the same with control seedlings.
