Research Abstract |
The development of the photosynthetic apparatus in cultured calluses and plantlets was studied by analyzing images of chlorophyll a fluorescence induction (CFI). The CFI curves differed at sites even within an individual leaf as a result of local development of the photosynthetic apparatus. The sensitivity and non-destructive nature of CFI imaging permits easy diagnosis of the development of the photosynthetic apparatus in cultured tissues. We also applied an advanced chlorophyll fluorescence measurement technique, pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) method. This technique allows us to evaluate two quenching coefficients (qp and qn) which reflect photochemical and nonphotochemical reactions in photosynthesis. The effects of water stress on the qeunchings varied with the growth stage.
