Research Abstract |
We thought that the way of education concerning AIDS prevetion in Japan put too much emphasis on the individual preventive measures themselves. We therefore surveyed the point of ignorance in AIDS prevention. By analyzing the results of respondents, such knowledge as the difference of the possibility of HIV infection between male and female in heterosexual contact, the existence of AIDS encephalopathy of the possibility of vertical HIV transmission were proved to be insufficient. As the peak of age distribution in Japanese males is in their forties in full AIDS kcases and in their thirties in HIV carriers, various kinds of education for AIDS prevention is important in the workplace. We also analyzed the understanding of the middle management in several companies. Partly because the cumulative reorted number of both cases and carriers are still small in Japan, their knowledge of concrete management were insufficieht, but the basic concept of the protection of privacy about the health condition of employees seemed to be well established. In addition, the importance of continuous and repeated education for AIDS prevention, for instance by making use of audio-visual apparatus was reconfirmed in Japan and in developing Asian countries.
