Research Abstract |
We have reported that Phosphoric Methacrylate adhesive resin (Panavia21, Kuraray, Japan) has strong adhesion and excellent adhesive durability to dentin pretreated with H_3PO_4 and NaClO. The purpose of this study was to clarify the adhesion mechanism between adhesive resin and dentin by TEM observations. The following results were obtained. 1) Dentin treated with H_3PO_4 and NaOCl appeared to remain intact. 2) Although it has been reported that a hybrid layr does not exist on dentin pretreated with H_3PO_4 and NaOCl, a very thin hybrid layr was observed in this study. 3) When a self-etching primer was applied on dentin pretreated with H_3PO_4 and NaOCl, a hybrid layr containing resin-encapsulated hydroxylapatite was created in relatively intact dentin 4) The reason for the excellent adhesive durability of the the hybrid layr on dentin pretreated with H_3PO_4 and NaOCl, in comparison with a hybrid layr formed in a denatured collagen layr, was thought to be due to the absence of smear and denatured collagen.
