Research Abstract

The follrwings are the result of the research ;
(1) The purpose of this paper is to clarify the distribution of industry in inner part of Tokyo metropolitan area and its change in the past decade. For this purpose, various density distribution maps were derived by the grid method. The research in the following conclusion.
1, The extensioin of highly concentrated area of factory has shrunk in the past decade and the number of factory has declined in most of the area especially in the areas surrounding business and commercial centers.
2, The areal specialization by the industrial group has not changed fundamentally. However, in the tendency of decline of industrial activity, only printingindustry is indeveloping and the area of this typs has expandded changing the characteristice of adjacent areas.
(2)By the rapid appreciation of the yen in 1990s, Japanese industry core of which is Tokyo has quickly losted its competitiveness and is now rapidly moving oversea countres. This is naturaly causi … More ng out of Japanese industry and also giving to the prediction of the disapperance of industy from Japan. And it is natiural that industrial system of Tokyo as the national core should be changed drastically.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the recent locational change of industryin the Tokyo metropolitan region focus on inner area from the view point of regional industrial system.
(3)In the Kobe city. manufacturing in the inner area is characterized the Sake brewing and manufacturing of Chemical shoes. These two industries were damaged greatly by the Han-shin disaster. Firstly, all of the traditional warehouse of sakebreweries were destroyed and production of some blands must be stopped. But, it was luckly that most ofmodern facilities survived and was able to continue the production. Secondly, the damageof chemical shoes industry was more serious. There were about 250 of small scale
chemical shoes manufactures in Nagata district with various kind of many subcontractors forming the largest complex of shoes manufacturing in Japan. By the disaster, 90% of the plants and houses of employees were destroyed or burned down and nerely all of the production stopped. It proved to be the deathblow to the local economy of inner areawhichdepend on the industry. To survive the complex of chemical shoes industry in inner city area, in is necessary to push forward integrated with the renewal of housing and streed systems based on the concept of theindustrial community.
