Research Abstract |
This project aims to analyze the expansion process of higher education in the period of post-WWII in Japan at the orgnizational level. In reviewing sociological and economic theories trying to explain educational expansion such as "Technical Functionalism", "Human Capital Theory", "Conflict Theory"and "Institutional Theory", it was common to all of these to neglect the fact that educational expansion would be impossible unless the capacity of schools increase. Thus the research in educational expansion should focus upon the organizational behavior when there is the needs and demands for schooling. Needs and Demand Organizational Educational for School-------* Behavior of Schools-----* Expansion Thus we need to know when, under what circumstances and how each higher education institution takes what behavior to respond to needs and demands for higher education. To achieve this goal I formulate the research framework in Chapter 1 and analyze the prpcess of institutionalization of graduate school in Japan in Chapter 2. To emphasize the significance of political, economic and cultural environment on organization, as appendix the analysis on German model graduate school is also added. Based on the this project we need to examine empirically.
