Research Abstract |
Ansu Datta, University of Zambia, writes on Education during colonial era. "In the early phase of colonial administration some missionaries in Africa believed that they were bringing education to entirely uneducated peoples, a supposition which would have been valid if education were equated with literacy and formal schooling. " (Ansu Datta Education and Society : A Sociology of African Education Macmillan 1984 p.2) In content it had a definite Europian bias, and it laid a heaver stress on liberal arts to the neglect of vocational, technological and professiona instractions. Many children left school after only a short stay, semi-literate at best. Secondary education was neglected. Compared to the opressed education under colonial rule, after the liberation expansion of schooling started. Just after the liberation, the economical situation is not so good. But under such condition, the spread of primary education was tried to make 'nation state' But, on the other hand, in the economy that has big gap between the poor and the rich, the difference of schooling make the defference of the personal economic situation. It is also a theme to make clear the relation of the education and the 'nation', and that of the education and the economy.
