Research Abstract |
It is difficult to understand the meaning of the particle and the auxiliary verb in old Japanese, for we explain it with the gramrtical idea of present-days Japanese. But analizing the Uighur, We can consider the problem without it. For example, up to the present we regard HUKUJYOSI [si] which we find often in Manyoshu, as enphasis. But comparing with Uighur, we find [si] can means the indication, and it can be conne cted with the RENTAIKEI of [ki], the auxiliary verb of recollection and [si], the ending of the adjective. And we think that the particle [i] in Manyoshu means enphasis, but in Uighur [si] follows the noun which cease with vowel and [i] follows the noun which cease with consonant. As regards the tense, the present day Japanese have somthing in common with Uighur as shown below. It divedes roughly the present tense and the past one, and the present tense combine with the future one. The gramrtical function of RENTAIKEI has something in common with it of SYUSIKEI. We could not conclude these things with diachronic and synchronic systematic consideration. But these can change the point of view when we explain Japanese. Besides, we can conjecture that there was no conceptual distinguish between period and colon, long ago. If we think of Japanese with only the gramrtical idea of Japanese, we could not become aware it.
