Research Abstract |
New remote optical stimulated luminescence (R-OSL) and remote thermoluminescence (R-TL) have been developed by exciting He-Ne laser or heating samples at a long distance using infrared CO2 laser light Laser power intensity was controlled using a computer to obtain a linear heating rate. The emission of TL light from object was measured using an image intensifier as to give TL images of a central spot and rings as a function of the time due to thermal diffusion. The thermal conductivity of the material was estimated following the theoretical calculation of the thermal diffusion. It is suggested that R-OSL and R-TL can be used to evaluate the age and materials of asteroids, satellite and planet using surveyer space craft from a long distance.
