Research Abstract |
Various investigations were carried out at the research field which are Wat Rajaburana and Wat Maha That in Ayutthaya historic site, and Wat Sri Sawai and Wat Sri Chum in Sukhothai historic site. Environmental condition (air temperature, air humidity, precipitation, sunshine, surface and inside temperature of brick) has been measured and analyzed by setting a computerized automatic measuring system at Wat Rajaburana, Wat Sri Sawai and Wat Sri Chum. Fixed point observation has been done at the part where bricks are severely decayd in Wat Maha That. Two small pillars were made by brick near Wat Maha That for simulation test. Water content of the pillars and the surronding groud has been measured periodically. Water level in an old well at Wat Maha That has been measured by setting a computerized automatic measuring system in the well. Investigation to the biodeterioration of the giant Buddha statue at Wat Sri Chum was done, and then the test for cleaning and priventive treatment of the statue was done. Since the test result was so good that actual conservation treatment to the statue was carried out. First the surface of the statue was cleaned by using surgical knife, then the surface layr of the statue was impregnated with a solution of Methyl-triethoxysilane, so that the surface layr was consolidated and hydrofobigated. Through the above research, it reveals that the basic measure for the conservation of a brick remain is to control the water which is affecting the remain.
