Research Abstract

Although our laboratory works are still in progress, I will describe briefly the results of our investigation in Timor and Sumatra Islands in 1995.
We made geologic investigations at and along the logging roads from Soe to Kolbano, Soe to Tanjunmenu and Nikiniki to Boti. We discriminated both Upper Triassic and Lower Cretaceous radiorian faunas from fine calcareous sediments cropping our along these logging roads. Among the Lower Cretaceous radiolarian faunas, we recovered Non-Tethys type radiolarian fauna which has peculiar multisegmented Nasselarian radiolarians.
We collected red limestone samples which belong to the Pemian Maubisse Formation and contain abundant fossils such as corals, brachiopods, ammonites, trilobites and others.
Altemation of sandstone and shale is cropping out at the road side cliff near Swanae. This alternation yields large inoceramid bivalves, corals and radiolarians. Radiolarian fauna from this altemation is referable to the rep resentative ones in the Lower Cretaceous in Tethys regions.
We discriminated Carboniferous and Pemian fusulinds from Bukitkingi ad Padan detan in Sumatra lslands, respectively. These fusulinids faunas have Tethyan affinity.
Shallow reefal limestone containg corals, algae and stromatolites has been first discovered from the north coast of the Lake Toba, in Sumatra lslands.
