Research Abstract

MOA (Microlensing Observations in Astrophysics)
The Japan-NZ Macho Observation team for Astronomy called MOA,a big bird in New Zealand, is preparing observation for Macho at Mt.John observatory of the University of Canterbury in 1995. MOA aims to search for planet mass machos (<0.1 of solar mass) in the halo of the Galaxy as follows :
1. Observatory :
Mt.John University Observatory, Canterbury, NZ 44S,170E,1000m
2. Telescope : modified Boller & Chivens, D=0.6m, 1.4 degree field, computer controlled tracking and slewing over whole sky.
3. Camera : 1996 : 9 million pixels, Tl215-T,0.65arc secs 1997 : 16 million pixels, SlTe-002,0.81 arc secs, back side illuminated with AR-coating.
4. Sky coverage (1996) : LMC bar and environs, 1.1*3.3 degrees, up to five 4 minute red and blue exposures per night.
MOA has started the observation just from March 1996.
MOA is supported by the Marsden Fund of NZ and the International Scientific Research porgram and A Grant-in Aid for Scientific Reserach Program of the Ministery of Education of Japan.
