Research Abstract |
Ionic magnetic fluid prepared firstly by the staffs of Univ.of Paris 6 show excellent fluid properties differing from the ordinary magneic fluid, especially in the case of fluid heating since stability degradation does not occur with no-use of surfactant. The basic properties (mainly, magnetic and rheological properties), fluid flow problems of ionic magnetic fluid and its applications are investigated during two years from April 1995. this report explains the summary of joint research project. (1) Magnetic properties of ionic magnetic fluid Magnetic properties of ionic magnetic fluid at low temperature are investigated by using equipment of nuclear magnetic resonance and temperature dependence of magnetic structure of fine particles is clarified. (2) Pipe flow characteristics of magnetic fluid The oscillatory flow characteristics of magnetic fluid is investigated theoretically by taking into account particle's aggregates. The results of analysis show good agreement with the experimental results. Also, there is a progress in the study on gas-liquid two-phase flow characteristics of magnetic fluid in a nonuniform magnetic field. (3) Optical and rheological properties New technique to clarify the micro structure of magnetic fluid is proposed. Namely, from the measurement of dependence of optical properties of magnetic fluid on the magnetic field, the micro behavior of fine magnetic particles and local vorticity of fluid are deduced. Also, negative viscosity effect is confirmed by experiments of viscoity measurement in application of magnetic field with high frequency. (4) Applications The basic studies of the development of magnetic fluid damper, actuator, heat pipe and energy conversion system are conducted to get high performance of these applied machines and equipments.
