Research Abstract |
Regulation mechanism of the electron transport in chloroplasts and the related platids was investigated by the group including three American scientists who are experts in each field. Experiments were planed by focussing on 1) regulation mechanism of electron transport in photosystem I core complex, 2) regulation mechanism of electron transport to NADP^+ or from NADP^+ around ferredoxin in chloroplasts and plastids of non-photosynthetic tissues, 3) regulation mechanism of several proteins by thiol-disulfide exchange reaction which is mediated by thioredoxins, 4) redox regulation by thioredoxin system. Each electron transferring components in Fe-S type reaction centers from chloroplasts from higher plants, green sulfur bacteria and primitive bacterium Heliobacter mobilis were compared in the aspect of structure and function. With PCR method cDNA of ferredoxin-NADP oxidoreductase mainly expressed in non-photosynthetic tissues was cloned and compared with other cDNA sequences of FNR from rice and maize. The new function of thioredoxin h was characterized and the allergenicity in food proteins was clarified to be reduced by thioredoxin.
