Research Abstract |
This is an overall project conducted by three study groups : (1) Asian ceramics, (2) Prospecting techniques and (3) Asian bronze objects. Each group conducted their study on a research technique as follows : (1) Asian ceramics Vietnamese ceramics are recently discovered at many sites in South-east Asia and even in Japan. They were also influenced by Chinese ceramics. So Vietnamese ceramics had an important role in a culture of Asian ceramics. In this research Vietnamese ceramics excavated at North and central vietnam were analyzed by X-ray micro-analyzer (EPMA).The sites are Chu Dau, Hop Le (North of Vietnam) and Go Sanh, Cay Me (Central of Vietnam). The result shows that the body and glaze of the samples were similar with those of ceramics from South China, neighborhood of Vietnam. This may indicate an influence from China. (2) Prospecting techniques A study was conducted to improve the devices and technique for prospecting ; three axs gradiometer for magnetic prospecting and the use of aerial photography. (3) Asian bronze Yukinoyama bronze mirror was studied by comparing another mirror at Freer-Sackler Gallery. Those two mirrors were probably cast by the same mold.Ancient Chinese bronze objects were also studied by lead-isotope ratio method.
