Research Abstract

次世代触媒と呼ぶに値する新触媒、或いはそのための新触媒設計コンセプト、新触媒材料、新反応を提案することが大目的である。そのため、(1) 原子分子レベル設計、(2) 複合機能、(3) 新材料、(4) 分子反応工学、(5) 環境触媒の各班で研究を遂行した。全体としては、このコンセプトが深化され、本領域に著しい進歩が見られた。また、個別にも多くの素晴らしい具体的成果が上がった。隣接分野、異分野の交流も促進され、情報交換、共同研究が活発化した。その結果、学会の活性化に大いに貢献した。日本発の総説誌Catalysis Surveys from Japanの発刊、4回にわたる国際環境触媒フォーラムの開催と成功は、本重点領域研究の成果によるところが大きい。このように当初の目標は概ね達成されたものと考えている。
研究組織は5つの実施班と総括班で編成した。班会議、班長会議、総括班会議を定期的に開催し計画全体が連携してスムーズに進捗するよう調整した。と同時に、班を横断するテーマについてサテライトセミナーを9回開催したことが本領域研究の大きな特徴である。このセミナーは大変好評で、共同研究へのインセンテイブとなった。これらの活動の結果、当初計画したテーマについての連携を促進できたことに加え、自発的な共同研究が数件スタートした。これらの連携は現在も進行中であり、実績を上げつつある。また、班員間の情報交換、連絡には年2回、計6回ニュースレターを発行した。
