Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to examine what system in special education should be prepared in the future. To consider that purpose from various angles, education materials, bulletins, or transactions were collected from local bords of education. Next, some questionnaires prepared on the basis of those data were put into practice to special schools or classes sampled from the whole country. Finally, some interviews had been done with responsible persons of educational institutions or welfare center. On the basis of data derived from the above-stated procedures, discussion about the future's system of special education in Japan were done as follows : 1. To meet developmental, medical or educational needs of preschool children with disabilities and their parents, a system of center-like facility, associated with some other educational and medical facilities, should be prepared in each community. 2. Special schools should make more efforts to serve corresponding to needs of children receiving compulsory education and their families, further give them more useful resources to residents in school districts. 3. The problems found in the education for adolescents with disabilities should be discussed in the whole span of later period of secondary school, and a new educational system, which could fill up special education by acting in connection with various facilities, should be prepared for them. We also found that the education for young peoples of mental retardation became various problems on the management and it was suggested to need the development of educational system so that they may live a better life in community and be given more opportunities for their learning.
