| Research Abstract |
1. Holding Meetings
This research group held numerous meetings and symposiums from 1995 to 1997 with participation and collabolation of distinguished scholars in Chinese Overseas studies as well as Chinese Overseas in Japan (see"The Report on Achivements of the Research Project.")
2. Collecting Materials
Extensive efforts have been made to collect related materials in various aspects such as Chinese Goverment's official reports, Guomindang (Chinese Nationalist Party) documents, Chinese newspapers, a part of Kobe Yushin Nippo (Microfilm) and declassified diplomatic documents in Gaimusyo Gaiko Shiryo-kan [The Diplomatic Record Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs]. Related printed materials in Japanese, Chinese and English including recently published Japan Directory were also obtained. These collections will be an important groundwork for further researchdevelopments.
3. Publicizing Research Achievements

meetings with Kobe Sciety for the Study of Chinese Overseas as well as actively paticipating symposiums and meetings held by various research associations which the group members are affiliated with. These papers were published in Newsletter of Kobe Sciety fot the Study of Chinese Overseas as well as various faculty or university journals (see"The Report on Achivements of the Research Project.")
It might well be said that our research activities finally laid the foundations of going beyond previous works on Chinese Overseas in Han-Shin Area such as Nihon Kakyo Syakai no Kenkyu [Stusies on the Society of Chinese Overseas in Japan] by UCHIDA Naosaku (1949) as well as Kobe Osaka no Kakyo [Chinese Overseas in Kobe and Osaka] by KOHYAMA Toshio (1979).
4. Prospects for future
History of Shin-Pan (Kobe-Osaka) Zhonghua Huiguan is now under compilation with this research group members as main contributors. The group is also now preparing for the international academic exchange with Chinese scholars. Less
