Research Abstract |
In this study we clarified the theramal strucutes and processes of geothermal and volcanic systems in cenral Kyushu, Japan, from geological, geophysical and geochemical standpoints. The main results are shown below. 1.The geothermal resource around Kuju volcano, central Kyushu is estimated at 1200MW・30years (surface to 3km deep) and 14000MW・30years (surface to 10km deep). 2.A model of gravity structure in the central Kyushu is presented. The underground structures of Kuju volcano, Aso volcano and Unzen volcano are investigated from seismological, electromagnetic and thermal methods : 3.The Quatemary tectonics in the central Kyushu is investigated and clarified the tectonic background of Kuju volcanic and geothermal systems. 4.The fluids flow systems at some geothermal systems (Beppu and central part of Kuju volcano) in central Kyushu are investigated. As a result, new ideas about deep geothermal fluids and mixing deep geothermal fluids with surface water are developed. 5.Environmental aspects of volcanic eruption and geothermal fluid extraction and reinjection are investigated at Kuju volcano and some geothermal fields around Kuju volcano. Some new methods for fluid flow monitoring were developed. 6.The time of the occurrence of the Hatchobaru geothermal system in central Kyushu was clarified from geologically. 7.The initial stage of development of geothermal systems accompanying with the 1995 eruption of Kuju volcano was clarified from joint observation of geology, geophysics and geochemistry. The resuls obtained are very important to understand the development of geothermal systems. 8.The new simulation program was developed to study the development of geothermal systems beneath active volcanoes. The program was applied to Kuju volcano and presented an new idea of developmen of two phase reservoir beneath the active volcano.
