Research Abstract |
In this study we have made a practical study on three sub themes for four years. (1) to develop a Braille printing system that can change the character size and to produce the Braille that is adjusted to the individual tactile Braille reading features. (2) to establish a method to evaluate the Braille size for the individual person. (3) to develop a Braille learning program for the adventitiously blind by the usage of the adjusted Braille. This year we made a final report. In this report, in addition to the four year study results, we took a brief look at the rules of Braille and changing of a Braille teaching method from a total and historical point and examined their futures. The report has five chapters. The title of the first chapter is "the rules of Braille writing method and its changing" and we summarize the history of Unified Braille Code(UBC) as well as the history of Japan Braille Committee, In the second chapter we have a look at "the Braille teaching method" briefly and introduce a teaching theory of tactile Braille reading with efficiency and the Braille learning program. In the third chapter we summarize "the characteristics of the Braille and its difficulty in reading", especially a cause of tactile Braille reading difficulty for the visually impaired as a result of diabetic retinopathy and how they deal with it. We also introduce the Braille printing system developed to print the Braille that is easy to read in size for the individual person. We briefly look at changing of "Braille information processing by computers". and the latest systems in the fourth chapter. In the last chapter we summarize "the history and the future of the Braille" as a means of getting information for the visually impaired. We prepare an electronic version (text/HTML/PDF) for the visually impaired users.
