Research Abstract

CuGeO_3の不純物誘起反強磁性相の研究を引き続き行なった。昨年度の末に単結晶では(多結晶では良質の試料の得られないことが知られている)Mg置換(Cuを置換、またMg^<2+>は非磁性)した試料が非常に良質であることが明らかになった。従って今年度Cu_xMg_<1-x>GeO_3の相図の作成を詳細に行なった。その結果、反強磁性相には2種類あるという、非常に重要な発見を行なった。
スピンパイエルス秩序と反強磁性秩序の共存する相(Dimerized Antiferromagnetic Phase)と一様な反強磁性相(Uniform Antiferromagnetic Phase)の2種類、が存在し、不純物濃度の関数として一次相転移をしている。さらに他の不純物置換の結果を再検討した結果、Ni置換(Ni^<2+>イオンにはS=1のスピンが局在)、Zn置換(Zn^<2+>は非磁性)に関しても同様の現象が見出され、Cuを他の不純物で置換する場合には、局在するスピンの大きさに依存せず、2種類の反強磁性相とその間の一次相転移が存在するという普遍性が存在すると考えられる。
この発見はCuGeO_3、および低次元反強磁性体の研究に新しい局面を開くものである。
我々が発見したスパイラル反強磁性体Ba_2CuGe_2O_7の性質を詳細に研究し、また磁場中での複雑な状態変化を実験的、理論的に明らかにした。
