Research Abstract |
It is important to evaluate seismic hazard and risk from scenario earthquakes as a basis of urban planning for seismic safety. Application of Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) is indispensable to more effective seismic hazard and risk evaluation. In this study, the seismic hazard and risk mapping system using existing nation-wide databases is developed in order to practice the hazard and risk evaluation for a large metropolitan area. The Digital National Land Information which is a nation-wide database on natural conditions is used to evaluate the spatial distribution of susceptibility of ground motion amplification, liquefaction and slope failure. Combining the susceptibilities with the empirical attenuation relationship of ground motion intensity, potential maps on ground motion, liquefaction and slope failure for a scenario earthquake are drawn. The Grid-Square Statistics which is a nation-wide digital database on social conditions is used to evaluate the spatial distribution of population of wooden houses with different construction age. Combining the populations with the vulnerability functions and the ground motion intensity, the risk map on wooden houses is drawn.
