Research Abstract |
1.The image of simulation results drawn on computer display was recorded on video tape by using a frame scan converter, and animations of flowing elements in simulation could be made. As the result, comparison between simulation and experimental results became easy. 2.Separation box was fixed on the separation plate of a shaking separation machine. Flowing state of grains and separation atate of paddy rice in the box were observed by video camera. The separation state of paddy rice was quantitatively expressed by processing the image. The inclined angle of box was 20゚, the frequency of vertical and horizontal vibration were both 3.5 Hz, and the amplitude 1.43 and 2.65cm, respectively. Grains flowed like a fluid. In the case of the bottom of acrylic resins board, grains flowed near downstream part, and paddy rice rose to the free surface of grain layr by segregation but was not separated in the horizontal direction. In the case of separation plate, paddy rice rose to the surface and was separated in the horizontal direction. After this, the separation state of paddy rice hardly changed. 3.The shaking separation phenomena were simulated by distinct element method using circular element under the same condition as experiment. Then the effect of unevenness of separation plate surface was considered in the simulation. As the result, the flowing state of grains and the separation state of paddy rice in experiments could be qualitatively predicted. However, after paddy rice was separated at first, the separation state a little changed cyclically. 4.In order to solve the difference between experimental and simulation results, the method to express orientation of flowing rice grains in DEM simulation using circular element was developed in basic flowing states. In future, the method will be applied to the shaking separation phenomena and the method to express the effect of unevenness of separation plate surface will be reconsidered.
