| Research Abstract |
On the comparative construction, we have made researches mainly on french documents.
1) By the methodes of typology and contrastive study, we have extracted universalities and peculialities of the french comparative construction. We have analyzed comparative particle, nature of adjective, particle introducing an object of comparison and relation between comparison and negation. We have pointed out that there is a close relation between quantitative comparison and selection between two terms.
2) Concerning the so-called meta-linguistic comparative, we have made researches on peculialities of indo-european, nature of adjective and discours. There are a polysemy and a difference from the normal quantitative comparison. Unlike english, the french meta-linguistic comparative construction shows a clear similarity to the normal quantitative comparison. This is a original remark.
3) On the double comparative construction, researches have been made on diachronic changes from moyen to modern french and the english equivalent construction. This construction was formed from a deplacement of comparative particle to the head of the sentence.
4) Concerning the locutions plus ou moins and ni plus ni moins, we have collected much examples from the french literature. Observations have made on polysemy of these locutions. We pointed out that the polysemy of these Iocutions are reducible to that of the comparative : quantitative comparison and selection between two terms.
We have published these results in some articles and read papers in academic societies at Sophia University, University of Parleme, University of Tsukuba and Iwate University. And we have presented the final report.
