Research Abstract |
Some of new methods are developed for local myocardial motion analysis. These processing methods are applied to diagnoses using echocardiograpy. Obtained results are as follows ; 1.New detection method of borders of left ventricle from ultrasonic echocardiogram is developed. Borders of left ventricle have distinctive feature of smooth continuous curves on echocardiogram. The smooth continuous border curves are detected as Fourier Series with several harmonics, and Fourier coefficients are determined to be the maximum summation of a echo strength gradients on the border curve. 2.The fundamental equation of a optical flow estimation by gradient method is discussed, and it is introduced the fundamental equation keeps the form invariant in any coordinate system, even if the coordinates are time varying. So, optical flow exists corresponding to the coordinate system, and local and Relative Optical Flow (LROF) is defined. lROF implies movement on the correspondent coordinate system, and saves calculation of optical flow estimation compared with the conventional method. 3.In order to detect ischemic and/or infarcted myocardium of a left ventricle, a motion of the cardiac muscle must be estimated. Conventional method, such as centerline method, may estimate the only global motion of a myocardium usng echocardiography. Proposed new method estimates not only global motion but local displacement of the myocardium, applying LROF estimation method.
