Research Abstract

Carbon dioxide is important as a solvent in the chemical industries. Phase equilibrium properties at high pressures are fundamental ones required for separation process design in petroleum, natural gas, and related industries.
High pressure vapor-liquid equilibria and saturated densities are measured for carbon dioxide+methanol system at 313.15K,without any analysis of phase compositions, based on mass balance and the phase rule. Unsaturated densities are further measured. The saturated points near the critical point of mixture are measured by the conventional dew-bubble point pressure method. A technique is presented to determine the saturated vapor-points, assuming the linear relation between molar volume and mole fraction. The experimental data obtained are correlated with equations of state.
An experimental technique for determination of saturated densities on vapor-liquid equilibrium measurements at high pressures without using any density meter is proposed. A technique is also presented for vapor-liquid equilibrium measurements at high pressures for the apparatus equipped with density meters. An experimental consistency test of vapor-liquid equilibrium data at high pressures is further presented for the apparatus equipped with density meters.
