Research Abstract |
The study aimed to clarify lethal dose 50 (LC_<50>) and the acute pulmonary toxicity of heat decomposed gas of 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-Heptafluoropropane (HEP,CF_3CHFCF_3), which is one of halon alternative fire extinguishing agents, on male ICR mice. Exposure levels of the decomposed gas sampled in inpingers were expressed as an equivalent dose of hydrogen fluoride (HF). 1. To clarify LC_<50> of heatdecomposed gas of HFP,five groups of ten mice each were exposed to 87.0,173.3,237.8,456.5,709.6 ppm of the gas for one hour. LC_<50> of the gas was estimated to be 463ppm, which is similar to LC_<50> of hydrogen fluoride, 500ppm. 2. To clarify the acute pulmonary toxicity of heat decomposed gas, five groups of five mice were exposed to the same concentration of the gas as 1. After exposure, the hematological, biochemical and histopathological examinations were performed. In higher exposed group, desquamation of alveolar epithelial cells and decrease of calcium in serum were seen. These results suggested that heat decomposed gas of HFP caused pulmonary inflammation and epithelial cell damage.
