Research Abstract |
WE ANALYZED 23 PATIENTS WITH "RHEUMATIC CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME IN CHILDHOOD". FEMALE IS PREDOMINANT (91%), AND THERE WERE NO SPECIFIC CLINICAL SYMPTOMS. HOWEVER, FEVER (61%), ARTHRALGIA (57%), GENERAL FATIGUE (48%) AND HEADACHE (35%) WERE FREQUENTLY OBSERVED. AS FOR LABORATORY DATA, ALL PATIENTS HAVE ANTlNUCLEAR ANTIBODY(ANA) WITH LOW TITER (1:40-1:640) IN SERA. THE FLUORESCENT PATTERN OF ANAS IN ALL BUT ONE (96%) WERE HOMOGENEOUS/SPECKLED. IN SOME PATIENTS, RHEUMATOID FACTOR, HYPERGAMMAGLOBULINEMIA AND ACCELERATION OF ESR WERE OBSERVED. OTHER AUTOIMMUNE ANTIBODIES WERE NOT DETECTED IN MOST PATIENTS. THE LEVELS OF SERUM COMPLEMENT, ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS WERE NORMAL. FAMILY STUDY REVEALED THAT 55% OF THEIR MOTHERS HAD SIMILARLY LOW TITER (1:40-1:80) OF ANA IN SERA. THE FLUORESCENT PATTERNS OF ANAS WERE ALL HOMOGENEOUS/SPECKLED. SOME OF THEM HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF THE PATIENT. FROM THE ANALYSIS OF ANTIGENS RECOGNIZED BY ANAS IN PATIENTS, SO FAR WE COULD NOT DETECT ANY SPECIFIC BANDS COMMONLY SEEN IN THE PATIENTS WITH IMMUNOBLOTTlNG. WE HAVE FINISHED THE ANALYSIS OF CLINICAL SYMPTOMS AND LABORATORY DATA COMMONLY USED IN CLINIC IN THE PATIENTS. HOWEVER, WE STILL HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT SPECIFIC MAKERS IN ANA AND TO ESTABLISH NEW DEFINITIONS OF THIS SYNDROME. IN PRELIMINARY STUDY, THERE WERE NOT A FEW PATIENTS FITTED WITH THE SYMPTOMS AND LABORATORY DATA MENTIONED ABOVE. IN NEAR FUTURE WE WILL DO A NATION-WIDE SURVEY OF THIS SYNDROME WITH THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED DEFINITION.
