Research Abstract |
There has so far been recognized that the iodine contrast medium had no effect on the thyroid function. Recently we experienced some cases whose thyroid uptake ratio of 99m-TcO4 was decreased after enhanced computed tomography. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the iodine contrast medium exerted its influence on the thyroid function. Enhanced CT of the cervical region including the thyroid gland was performed using the iodine contrast medium (about 100ml/body) by intravenous injection. Each patient had normal thyroid function and no abnormal thyroid mass. 99m-TcO4 scintigraphy was performed twice in each patient. Early phase scintigraphy was performed within one week after the enhanced CT and late phase was two weeks after. The enhanced CT showed no irregular enhancement of the thyroid gland. The scintigraphic images in early and late phase showed no abnormal accumulation in thyroid gland visually, but uptake ratio of 99m-TcO4 in early phase was slightly less than that in the late phase. As there was no difference in the value of the thyroid hormones between before and after the enhanced CT,it can be said that the iodine contrast medium exerted any influence on the uptake ratio of 99m-TcO4.
