Research Abstract |
1. The good accuracy and reproducibility were made sure and those results were reported at the 12th International Congress of Eye Research, 1996 (Yokohama, Japan). 2. The blood velocity of the rims of optic nerve heads changed by aging, the velocity at the 6th decade was significantly higher than that at 4th and 8th decades. The velocity at the inferotemporal rims was significantly lower than that at the superotemporal rims of the optic nerve heads. Those results were good control for studying on the circulatory changes in eyes with diabetes mellitus, and might indicate that the circulatory insufficiency influenced to the glaucoma. Those results will be reported on the Japanese Glaucoma Society Meeting, 1997. The blood velocity at the rims of optic nerve heads in eyes without diabetic optic neuropathy (group d) showed no significant change compared with normals. The eyes with diabetic optic neuropathy (group c) were 7 ; 5 of 7 eyes showed ischemic neuritis and 2 of 7 eyes were papilledema. The blood velocity in group c decreased compared with that in the group d and normals. The visual function did not regress through the followed-up periods. Those results indicate that there is a tight relationship between the circulatory insufficiency in optic nerve heads and the visual dysfunction. 3. The measured area of the laser speckle flowgraphy is still narrow. On the measurements of macular blood velocity, we can not make sure that we followed same points for each patient with the visual dysfunction. Therefore, we quit to measure the macular blood velocity using the resent instrument. We are making the plan to build up the next version of the laser speckle flowgraphy which have a wider measured area and can monitor the measured site during measurements.
