Research Abstract |
A nuber of digital imaging apparatus has been widely used in the dental field. Calibration of color balance is mandatory to utilize digital images, especially recording subtle color change by the tooth bleaching procedure. Conventional color calibration method is done by using Vita shade guide as a reference, but shade guide compensation method was some kind of try and error procedure and took a lot of time to obtain natural color images. CasMatch (Color And Size Matching Sticker, Kyowa Tokei Co.LTD.Tokyo JAPAN) was developed for the dermatology field to process digitized photographic images on computers. The purpose of this study was to compare the usefulness of the CasMatch and the Vita shade guide to calibrate the color balance of digital images of tooth color. Tooth with CasMatch and series (A-D) of Vita shade guide were photographed at the magnification of 1 : 1.5 with Olympus still digital camera dental kit containing ring-flash and close-up lens. After obtaining base line data (the angle of lens axis and object plane was 0 degree), photograph of increasing the angle from 0 to 30 by every 3 degree were taken. Measurement were conducted on the CasMatch and on the Vita shade guide images. The RGB image data were converted to the CIE-L^<**>a^<**>b^<**> scale and calculated delta E values. Statistical analysis by students 1st-test (p=0.05) revealed that there were no significant difference between CasMatch and Vita shade guide.
