Research Abstract |
With increasing the elderly population, denture wearers will be increased. Microcirculation could be good diagnostic aid for monitoring oral mucosal health. In this study, to aid the designing of removable partial denture, blood flow, blood volume, crevicular fluid, and caries activity of denture wearers were examined. Firstly, gingival recession of middle aged and elderly people was examined, and it became clear that the percentages of gingival recession increased with age, and gingival recession occurred nearly the half of the denture wearers. Therefore, measuring point of gingiva should be considered. Secondly, LASER doppler flowmetry (LDF) was used for monitoring microcirculation of oral mucosa. Plastic fibers were connected at the tip of the sensor of LDF,and distance between the plastic fibers were examined. Distance of 1.0mm was suitable for measuring both the blood flow and blood volume. Thirdly, in the conventional design of the proximal minor connector of removable partial denture, gingival health had a tendency to worse. In the open design of the proximal minor connector, gingival health had a tendency to improve. When prevent abutment caries of overdentures, non-coping method of overdenture is effective for prosthetic treatment especially for the elderly. It was suggested that microcirculation of oral mucosa is easily monitored in clinical field using LDF.
