Research Abstract

The main aim of this study is to device some measuring methods of learning or studying abilities in School Geography, where we can relatively easily measure them with objective methods using normal tests.
What we have done are the follows ;
1.Studies about learning or studying abilities in the subject "Social Studies",
2.Learning or studying abilities in School Geography and its educational goal,
3.Measuring methods of the abilities in learning or studying for some other school subjects,
4.Some attempts for abilities' measuring,
5.Some devices for ability measuring,
6.Comparison of the measuring methods,
7.Findings of the study.
There have been appointed the necessity to study these themes for evaluation of the school lessons. But there is not so many studies about the methods to measure the learning or studying abilities in the Social Studies including school geography. But there are many applicable methods developed in the science for educational measurement and in the statistics. But, for example, the difference between the aerial recognition and the abilities of presenting on maps or reading from maps are not solved. For the problems of ability measuring, it is the great basic one, how to distinguish the recognition and the abilities and how to measure the recognition itself.
Therefore we have tried some attempts to measure the recognition using paper tests. Then we must make some devices in the tests to measure them, for example, how to measure the locational recognition without geographical maps or without writing abilities. We have gathered over 3,000 samples of cach test, but we have not yet completed. We have finished the analysis based only 400 samples of two set test, using normal statistical method. This is only the interim report, but we could have many fruitful results.
