Research Abstract |
The relationship between human and nature in the coastal regions since the Jomon Transgression in the southern Skhalin was studied based on the geological, chronological, geomorphological, and archaeological investigations. We showed that the peopling of Epi-Jomon, Okhotsk.Satsumon, Ainu continuously occurred along inland lake-side or river-side on the lake or river terrace after the formation of sand dune. Stratigarphy and chronology of the Kurosuna and charcoal sediments intercalated the dune sand showed occasional forest fire during the time of formation of sand dune in prehistory. We found the continuous peat deposit around the last 12,000 years in the south coast of the Bawai Lake along the Aniwa Bay in southern Sakhalin. The high precision carbon datings and paleobotanical analyzes showed the drastic vegetational change from a glacial environment to the coniferous forest around 12,000 yr BP,an increasing of prentiful tree and herbaceous species around 10,000 yr BP.a climatic deterioration or drastic climatic changes around 5,000 and 2,000 yr BP.
