Research Abstract |
We have invertigated metal nano-clusters for useful potical devices We have successfull confirmed 3rd order large optical nonlineality in gold island films. In the stretched silver island films composed of elongated nano-clusters with large optical anisotropy, nisotropical optical nonlineality has been also confirmed In addition, we have realized ultra-thin size optical polarizers using stretched multilayas of gold and silver island films and CD-compatible write-once optical data storage media using silver island films. The polarizers have the device thickness of 200 nm, the extinction ratio of 20 dB,and the insertion loss od I dB at the wavelength of 1500 nm. The write-once optical data storage media have high reflectance of 70% and large reflectance change greater than 50% in the wavelength region of 600-800 nm. And we have demonstorated ferromagnetic particle composite polymer films forglass and semiconductor substrater for the first time. In nickel, iron, and YIG particle composite polymer films, the large Faraday effect is observed
