Research Abstract

Aim of the present project is to promote the world-wide progress in endothelin research. To this end, we have organized a group which consists of members of active researchers on endothelin. These members also form the subcommittee on Endothelin Receptor of the Committee on Receptor Nomenclature and Drug Classification of International Union of Pharmacological Sciences (IUPHAR). This group has been playing an important leading role in progress of world-wide endothelin research. We have exchanged our information on endothelin research each other by mail etc. We also attended to several international conferences, and collected information relating to endothelin research. Results obtained in this year are as follows ; As a result of discussion among members of the subcommittee on endothelin reccptor, we decided that we did not change the summary of endothelin receptor in Trends in Pharmacological Sciences. We published a revision last year, but we don't see much progress in research on en … More dothelin receptor. Still many investigators have discussed on subtypes of ETB receptor, but no publication so far describes the structural difference between the two subtypes of ETB receptor. On the other hand, recent two papers describe thatthose two subtypes come from one gene in the past one year. Still we have no report on the isolation of ETc clone. Many new antagonists for ETA/ETB have been described. Many articles describing physiological and pathophysiological meanings of endothlin have been published, but they are still unclear. The receptor nomenclature and Drug Classification Committee was held two times, in July 1996 and January 1997 at Paris. This committee has discussed many documents regarding different types of receptor which will appear in Pharmacological Review in near future. In addition, we have discussed several important points including Receptor Compendium, Coding of Pharmacological Receptor etc. The former two points are important in standardization of Receptor Classification. The committee is now making a code of receptor which consists of abbreviations of ligand binding, receptor structure, signal transduction system and isotypes. Less
