Research Abstract |
The goal of the project was to reconstruct the relationship of mutual reliance (a cultural information network) that was formed by the arts and sciences of the Heian and Kamakura periods from the present and former collections of temple libraries by putting the manuscripts from the Kozanji library into a database. In order to do this an on-the-spot survey of the original documents has been undertaken twice (July 1998 and January 1999). As a result of this A Catalog of the Kozanji Toikidento Manuscripts (Kozanji Material Series ; 19) has been published by the Tokyo University Press and important progress has been made in the study of the formation of the K6zanji collection. Gaps in the bibliographic data of manuscripts that are presently in the Kozanji library, and manuscripts that formerly belonged to the collection but that have since ended up in private family collections have been filled and the interrelationship between the materials has been investigated. Furthermore the database has been reinforced with relevant research material extracted from Kozanji Tensekimonjo Sogochosadan Kenkyu Hokoku Ronshu, 1981-1997 (Collection of Research Reports by the Comprehensive Investigation Committee of the Kozanji Manuscripts) and Kuntengo to Kuntenshiryo, NR.1-101(Diacritical Language and Diacritical Materials) that both have contributed greatly to the introduction and study of Kozanji materials. Through the on-the spot surveys that were conducted, and the preparation of compatible computer systems between each of the researchers a system of close contact and co-operation was built, and making efficient use of the database that was the result of this a debate has been conducted concerning the relationship between the documents and their lineage. As a result, the goal of the research has been achieved and a report of the fruits of the research with a total of 322 pages has been produced and widely distributed.
