Research Abstract |
"Intercalation" includes interactions and transfer of ions and/or charge between various guest molecules and host materials which are natural or artificially produced as the results of topotactic reactions, and provides solid-solutions, phase transformation, and catalytic activities. In the present Project, on the basis of the principle of the "Control and Establishment of Reaction Sites", varieties of investigators in wide range of scientific fields have gathered together, and totally discussed about the basic idea to develop highly functional intercalation materials. The meeting was held on December 26-27,1996 in KKR "Hamayuu" located in Numazu, Shizuoka-Prefecture, with 27 members. In this meeting, following subjects have been discussed : 1) transport of electron in ion-electron mixed conductor, 2) trace of the change in the valence sate of iron using Mossbauer effect, 3) application of hetero-junction between different solid elctrolyte to sensors, 4) intercalation into materials showing strong electron nteraction, 5) photo catalytical activity of layred perovskite type composite oxides, 6) synthesis of metal chalcogenides having low dimensional structure by means of mechanical alloying method, 7) intercalation of lithium or hydrogen into carbon materials, 8) diffusion of lithium in spinel oxides, 9) novel cathode materials related to lithium-manganese oxide, 10) intercalation of lithium into lithium-transition metal nitrides, 11) STM observation of graphite surface intercalated with lithium, and so on. Among the discussion, varity of mutual relationship between different subjects have been strongly pointed out, and the importance of this kind of discussion have, again, recognized.
