Research Abstract

Generally the exposure time of rotational panoramic radiography varies from 12 to 20 seconds. In some of the children, the handicapped and the elderly patients, the rotational panoramic radiography may be contraindicated ; such cases include spastics, patients with hiccups, and those who have difficulty in remaining still during a long exposure time. And some of the patients feel fear when faced with the heavy-looking film holder surrounding their face. However, this full mouth radiographic survey plays a key role in management of these patients. We have developed a fast scanning rotational panoramic radiographic unit with longer patient-film distance aimed at less discomfort for these patients during the exposure.
Basic design of the unit
1. The exposure time is less than 5 seconds
2. The source-patient-film distance is utmost in the practice.
3. The emergency stop mechanism is needed.
Specifications of the unit
Exposure time ..........................2.5/1.3 seconds (bilateral/unilateral)
Rotation time ...........................3.0/1.5 seconds (bilateral/unilateral)
Source-film distance ....................................................725mm
2nd slit width ............................................................5mm
Positioning of the patient ................................seated (or standing)
Emergency stop mechanism .............................sensor on the film holder
Screen/film .................................................HR-12/S・HR-A(Fuji)
Manufactured by ............................................Asahi roentgen Ind.
Distributed by .............................................Asahi roentgen Ind.
We have developed a fast scanning rotational panoramic radiographic unit. It consideration of the radiographic examination of the patients who have difficulty in remaining still during a longer exposure, this unit is expected to bring us quality improvement in the patient management.
