Research Abstract |
(1) For this study, we excaved two sites : Kogaizawa-yama site and Kuretubo site in Nishine Town-all in Iwate Prefecture. Kogaizawa-yama Site is on the ridge of Highland about 500meters above sea level We excaved 14 pithouses-large 2 and small 12. In the result, we could see some Ha ji wares, a little Sueki wares, and several iron implements. The important part of Kogaizawa-yama Site is surrounded by moatsand earthworks. I regard the age of this sites as the later 10th century from those Haji and Sueki wares. Kuretubo site is on the top of Mt. Kuretubo 430meters above sea level. We excaved 7 pithouses-large 2 and small 5. In the result, we could see some Haji wares, a little Sueki wares and iron implements. The important part of Kuretubo Site is surrounded by moats and earthworks. I regard the age of this sites as the later 10th century from those Haji and Sueki wares. (2) In the result of on-the-spot surveys, there were many dwelling clusters on highland in heian period in northen area of Iwate, Akita and almost area of Aomor i prefecture, unknown to the academic society. Those dwelling clusters are different from general dwelling clusters on low land without moats and earthworks. I consider they are very defensive dwelling clusters. To promote the studu of dwelling clusters on highland in Heian period will make the connection of CHASHI-Ainu's fort-in Hokkaido and the background of ancient Emishi society that bred defensive dwelling clusters clear.
