| Research Abstract |
(1). Collection of basic data about master carpenters, building contrac-tors, and construction companies :
(1) Having increased and amended each datum already collected by the investigator Ykihiro Kado, and made the whole data about 214 master carpenters and building contractors into a data-dase.(Abstr.4)
(2) Among the above, having forcused several master carpenters, who were born in the former Echigo region, present Niigata Prefecture, and playd peculiarly important role in Hokkaido, and investigated their biography and principal works. the results were published as "Activities of Echigo Carpenters in Hokkaido, " in the Journal of AIJ,in August 1997 (Abstr.1)
(2). Detailed Investigation about the construction companies :
(3) Having accomplished an detailed historical study about the Ito-gumi Construction Company that was founded by Kametaro Ito, a master carpenter from Echigo, and developed as one of the largest building contractors in Hokkaido. the results were published as "Centennial History of Ito-gumi, " in January 1998 (Abstr.1)
(4) Having investigated buildings and builders in Sakhalin in the period of the Japanese rule and brought first into light the biography of Yoneshichi Endo, who was a principal builder there (Abstr.3)
(3). Exemplary study on builders and workers about the particular building works :
(5) Having collected several data about the building works and contractors frorm the documents from 1899 to 1930s deposited in Hokkaido University (Abstr.2)
(6) Having searched some traces of carpenters' works in the domestic buildings along the western coast of Hokkaido.
