Research Abstract

For the safety of textiles, flame retardant treatment has been developed.
In this paper, oxygen index (OI) indicated nonflammability, combustion speed and concentration of combustion gas were measured. Samples used in the experiment are polychlal (PC), PBI (PB), F.R.Modacryle (PT), cotton and their blend.
OI measured on PB,PC,PT and cotton were 36.0,30.7,29.8 and 18.0. Sample blended 50% F.R.fiber showed highest OI.
Velocity of combustion was determined using a high speed video camera system. The textiles retained high OI indicated slow combustion speed.
Combustion gases were analyzed by a gas chromatography. On the combustion gasees of sample of 1g per 1m air, CO concentration of PB,PC and PT were 51.4ppm, 32.2ppm, 25.6ppm. As samples blended cotton were decreased a generation of CO.HCN was detected on PB and PT.
