Research Abstract |
1. For the purpose of developing a multi-stack disk type corona motor, sector-shaped rectangular electrodes which can generate corona discharges toward both sides of the electrode surface are proposed and investigated. These electrodes are consist of inner and outer parts in thickness of 8mm, and high voltage is applied to the inner electrodes throughout the inside of insulated holders which penetrate the outer electrodes. Each disk type rotor is composed of both-side printed circuit bord and the diameter of each is 180mm. (1)In order to develop such a disk type corona motor, it is needed to evaluate quantitatively the generated torque of the corona motor in various constant speed. Digital P-I velocity control system has been realized by using a DSP board to adjust a revolving speed of a dc motor which is used to measure the generated torque of the corona motor. It is confirmed that even a single-stack disk type corona motor is capable of self-starting and multi-stack one can have a large generating torque m proportion to the number of surfaces of the disk type rotors. It is pointed out also that air gap length is very sensitive to the generated torque. 2. As an application of a cylindrical corona motor with multi-blade electrodes, a corona motor fan type ozone air generator is experimentally studied. This corona motor fan forms appropriate air flow and ozone. Ozone is good for deodorization and sterilization of air. In this device, both ozone formation and fan rotating speed depend on the corona discharge current. So the ozone content in the air flow can be controlled by the applied voltage of the corona motor. It is confirmed that the ozone content is usually kept below the environmental tolerance limit. 3. In order to extend the function of the ozone air generator, a corona motor fan type air cleaner was constructed and tested. In the usual static air cleaner, the air is circulated by an ionic wind formed by the corona discharges between positive and negative electrodes. However, the ionic wind is very weak, so the electric fan is necessary to circulate the room air and to improve the dust removal performance. Instead of the usual electric fan, the corona motor fan is applied. The performances of dust removal by using smoke of mosquito coils and the formation of ions and ozone are experimentally studied.
