Research Abstract |
We have prepared a lipid-coated enzyme, in which enzyme surfaces were covered with a monolayer of dialkyl amphiphiles and alkyl chains could solubilize enzymes in organic media. The lipid-coated enzymes can be solubilized in most of organic solution and act as an efficient catalyst. Following results were obtained. 1) A lipid-coated enzyme was obtained by mixing both aqueous solutions of enzyme and amphiphiles, and obtained precipitated are soluble only in organic media, but not in aqueous solutions. 2) The lipid-coated lipase can catalyze the enantioselective esterification (reverse reaction of hydrolysis) in isooctane. When the lipid-coated galactosidase was prepared, it acts as an efficient catalyst as transglycosylation in isopropyl ether. 3)We believe the lipid-coating system can be applied for most of enzymes to solubilize them in organic media without denaturation.
