Research Abstract |
On the 17^<th> of January 1990 Disastrous Hanshin earthquake caused horrible damage and the loss of life for over five thousand people, The purpose of this paper is to discuss and record the effect the earthquake had on the physical and mental condition of elderly patients on oxygen therapy in there home. We consider the suffering they had to endure and what they thought about their life. And how they overcome the damage. We checked their physical and psychological condition just after the earthquake and six months later, This is what we compared with interviews and quaternaries mailed to the elderly who were over 60 years of age, and there ware 75 oxygen therapy persons and 18 nonoxygen participants. We found that (1)It showed 5% difference in physical problems just after the earthquake in people on oxygen. But six months later there was a tendency for physical recovery from their circumstances. (2)The result of the PTSD study showed effects from the disaster six months later. The amount correlates with their proximity to earthquakes epicenter. (3)There is no significant difference between those on oxygen therapy and other elderly group in their rate of recovery. (4)The earthquakes didn't seem to cause an overwhelming feeling of loss.
