Research Abstract |
This survey research was conducted during 3 years between 1996 and 1998. The purpose of this survey research was to examine the situation of in-home care takers and to clarify the factors to hinder the use of services, which were considered to be necessary for helping care takers to take care of old bed-bidden persons at home. Many researches found the fact that most social services were not used even when social services such as home-helping, day-services, short-stay etc., were available. The objects of this survey research were 1562 in-home-care-takers, 85% of whom were females taking care of their parents, husbands, and parents-in-law. The survey was carried in 3 cities and 14 townships in Miyagi Prefecture. These areas are mostly agricultural communities and the rate of living together with older parents are very high, about 98% of the objects. We especially focussed on care-takers attitudes, consciousness and tendency related to family care for aged bed-bidden people. The results were as follows : (1) Most of care-takers did not always feel self-sacrificed or burden by their hard work of caring. Rather they felt the meaning of life of their work (2) About the use of social services from now on, most of them were very positive attitudes and showed more expectation of using services. (3) It was found that about 75% of care-takers were not worried about "SEKENTEI" and rather they were very voluntary and adaptive of their responsibility on caring (4) Most of care-takers were appreciative of learning a lot form their experiences.
