Research Abstract |
The shear walls with a L-shaped section are commonly in building structures to resist the lateral forces imposed by earthquakes. However there are very few research reports about such non-planar reinforced concrete shear walls subjected to bi-directional horizontal forces. In this research project, nineteen large scale L-shaped section shear walls were tested under the combined action of a constant axial force and bi-directional reversal horizontal forces increasing to shear failure. And the comparative experiments of the plane walls were done. The main results of this tests are as follows ; The proposed bi-directional shear strength graph gives almost good estimation of the ultimate horizontal forces in case of negative loading when the flange is compressed, but it underestimates the loads in case of positive loading when the flange is tensile.
