Research Abstract |
On this study, first of all I took note of "Ichi-machi" -the market towns- and the suburban areas in east Japan, investigated the composition of space in "Ichi-machi" -the market town. The result of this study can be given below : ・The stalls were settled in middle of road, in front of the houses -under the eaves etc.-, and inside houses called "Ucti-mise". These types of stalls had common characters in the east Japan. ・And the permanent stores had already appeared at least in the end of 17th.century. However, in the market towns in rural areas the nummber of the permanent stores was small even in the end of Edo period, and the stalls plays an important part of commercial trade. ・Secondly, by picking up the villages in the east Japan, I investigated the formation processes of permanent stores and the town areas. The summary of this study can be given below : ・After the middre of 18th century, commercial production was spread into the rural district, as a result, the farm-houses were added the style of the permanent stores, and also the town areas were expanded. ・Moreover, by picking up the house plans in "Hara village" in Sinano area in the end of Edo period, I clarified the composition of house plans in the market towns in the rural districts. The third, by picking up the old Nagaino village in the Aizu district, I investigated the formation processes of shop-houses. The summary of this study can be given below : ・The commercial activities which had mainly permanent stores were formed by extending some stores or building new town-houses with stores after the early of 19th century. ・After that, the stores and town-houses has became larger according as the active commerce. ・The formation processes of shop-houses in the rural districts had progressed at the same time when the commercial activities developed with the permanent-stores.
