| Research Abstract |
Photoinhibition and its related symptoms caused by high light results the delay of growth and yield loss. High light stress tolerance is required in durum wheat, which are grown in high irradiation area. The reduced size of light harvesting complex of photosystem II (LHCII) is one of the ways to avoid photoinhibition Chlorophyll a/b ratio is negatively correlated with LHCII.Therefore, the selection for higher chlorophyll a/b ratio could attain high light stress tolerance. 1.59 accessions were assessed for chlorophyll a/b ratio. Three accessions for higher and lower chlorophyll classes were chosen and variation of chlorophyll protein complexes and genetic parameters were estimated. Chlorophyll content of six accessions was not different. 2. ected for high and low chlorophyll a/b ratio in 10% selection intensity and 30 F_3 progenies/plants were grown to estimate the realized heritability. The realized heritability was 0.179 based on the selection differential. 3. The possibility to select high ETR through selection of higher chlorophyll a/b ratio was assessed. Out of 280 F_2 plants of Altai 80 x V.glabra, 36 plants were randomly chosen and estimated light response curves of ETR and chlorophyll a/b ratio. In higher chlorophyll a/b class ETR was not always high. In even chlorophyll a/b ratio class, high ETR plant was obtained. It was suspected that chlorophyll affected ETR.4. Sixty six single seed descent (SSD) lines were produced and the relationship of chlorophyll a/b ratio and ETR was assessed. Chlorophyll a/b ratio was not correlated with ETR.It was suspected that ETR correlated with chlorophyll content. 5.
