Research Abstract |
The relationship among rain lilies (Zephyranthes, Habranthus and Rhodophiala) presumed from the electrophoretic patterns of isozymes, cross affinity relationship and morphorogical characteristics. The materials used in this experiment were 5 species and 8 cultivars of Zephyranthes, 3 species and 5 cultivars of Habranthus, and 1 species of Rhodophiala. The results are as follows. 1) According to the result of dendrogram on cluster analysis by the electrophoretic patterns of esterase, peroxidase and acid phoshpotase isozymes, Z.'Luciae' is close to Habranthus, and Rhodophiala is remote from Zephyranthes and Habranthus. 2) Intervarietal, interspecific and intergeneric crossing was carried out using the ovule and ovary culture technique, Though most of F1 plants were matroclinal plants, true hybrids obtained from some cross combinations. Therefore, a great number of crossing should be made in order to obtain hybrid seeds. 3) The direction of bloomed flowers differ greately between Zephyranthes and Habranthus. The flower face upwardly in Zephranthes, but face of obliquely in Habranthus. 4) In parents and F_1 plants, flower color was investigated with Hunter's color difference meter. A wide variation of flower color was observed among F_1 plants. These materials could be used for the improvement of flower color in the rain lily.
